Howard Hughes operated a large manufacturing plant in northern Westchester’s Playa Vista. His private airport was part of the plant. The street now known as Runway Road is laid approximately where Hughes Airport runway once was. The Hughes facilities were owned by Hughes Tool Company, operated by Hughes Aircraft. The company specialized in building aviation navigation and communications systems.

In the 1960s aviation advances caused major increases in LAX air traffic. Westchester real estate CA spread out from the area, not allowing expansion to the north. In 2010 Los Angeles World Airport broke ground for the $1.5 billion expansion of the Bradley International Terminal. Additions to local infrastructure ensure the long-term value of local Westchester CA homes for sale.

Local golf courses, Encounter Restaurant, Jet Age Theme Building, and local schools (Otis College of Art and Design, Loyola Marymount University) continue to draw more people to the area. Pepperdine University also relocated to the northeast corner of Westchester in 2004.

With private college tuitions, infrastructure expansion, and aviation dollars being pumped into the local economy the Westchester real estate CA market is thriving. Unlike in LA, Westchester real estate CA consists of homes with small lots. Where land is at a premium; modest single-family homes, ranches, and bungalows are exceptionally appealing to those seeking Westchester CA real estate.
